Allyship

There's no one way to be an ally--allies come in all shapes and sizes. Allies are people who support LGBTQIA+ people and combat oppression on a personal, community, or nationwide level. There are different levels of allyship, and being an ally doesn't mean you have to go out and protest for LGBTQIA+ rights--sometimes allyship just comes in the form of supporting the LGBTQIA+ individuals in your life. This section will give you suggestions on how to do that, but also show you how to take your allyship further, to the activism level, for those who wish to go there.

Supporting Friends & Family

An important factor of allyship is how you support the LGBTQIA+ indivudals in your life. This section will give you advice on how you can support the LGBTQIA+ people around you in a variety of ways.

Everyday Allyship

Being an ally in your everyday life means speaking up against microaggressions and instances of discrmination and bigotry that you come across. It also means educating yourself on LGBTQIA+ issues and analyzing your own behavior and privilege. The links below will get you started.

Advocacy & Activism Work

Advocates and activists go further than combatting oppression in their personal lives--they try and make a social change. The links below will help you get involved in activism work; the sites in the Organizations section may also be useful.
